The National Treasury says they will retire all commercial loans after the establishment of a debt limit. Acting treasury cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani said that the need to have a fixed figure on the nation debt is important and will aid the common mwananchi to interpret how much the country owes others.
He further added that the figure set by parliament be fixed compared to the one currently in use where debt is measured as a ratio of the country’s GDP. This comes after numerous calls of concern to the treasury in regard to the country’s debt that currently stands at 5.5 trillion shillings.
