Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s presidential ambitions will not be fulfilled unless he unites Coast MPs, Muslim clerics in Mombasa have said.
A number of the governor’s former allies are backing Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid and are now hitting out at him.
They include MPs Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Suleiman Dori (Msambweni), Ali Mbogo (Kisauni), Bado Twalib (Jomvu), among others.
Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council said Joho’s chances of ascending to Kenya’s top political seat reduce with every verbal spat among Coast MPs. Kemnac chair Sheikh Juma Ngao gao said the verbal war between Coast MPs supporting Ruto and those opposing him will degenerate into more trouble for the Coast people.
He said those supporting Ruto for the sake of development at the Coast should be left to court the DP, and subsequently the government, to bring development to the region.

Kemnac senior advisor Sheikh Omar Abdulrazak said Joho has to start building his home before building the country. He said Coast residents have been neglected for long and if it takes MPs singing Ruto’s praises to get development, then that is the route to take.
Sheikh Amir Zani, a Kemnac advisor, said the verbal wars pitting pro- and anti-Joho MPs are shaming the region known for its charisma, humility and good-naturedness.
