Three people escaped death by a whisker while dozens of others scampered for safety after a perimeter wall collapsed in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
The 7a.m incident took place along Enterprise road/Kampala road junction when the wall belonging to mattress manufacturer Slumberland came down tumbling as workers were going to a job. A casual labourer, 3o-year-old Kisando Mukwesu sustained injuries after stones hit him on his head, chest, hands and legs. He was rushed by an ambulance to Kenyatta National Hospital.
A trader who operates a kiosk at the scene, 45-year-old Clement Mwaura said he was inside the kiosk when he heard the kiosk being pushed by the force of the wall. The kiosk was overturned with several commodities being damaged. He was not hurt.
A bodaboda operator who was waiting for customers at the scene jumped from the bike unhurt leaving the motorcycle behind. He said the rear lights were crashed.
