Kenya Dairy Board, the dairy industry regulator has insisted that the industry must be regulated to protect farmers and consumers. According to Margaret Kibogy, the dairy sector requires new regulations to address the quality and safety aspects of the dairy sector. She said that Kenya exports little volumes of milk due to quality and safety issues.
Last March, the board bowed to public pressure and withdrew the processing of its controversial draft regulations meant to regulate the industry.
But some of the new regulations have been revised after it sparked public outcry that includes not be preventing milk farmers to sell milk to their neighbours so long it within the radius of two kilometres.
The new draft regulations also indicate that farmers can sell their milk to any milk processor.
