Temperatures expected to rise in the coming years reducing area under maize cover

Dr. Wilson Rono, a crop scientist with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Kenya says temperatures are predicted to rise in the coming years in what will cut area under maize cover from the current two million hectares, hampering food production and earnings to farmers. The move is likely to result in a spark on food prices on account of the shortage, worsening the current annual deficit estimated at 20 million bags that the country face every year.
