Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko will spend the weekend at the EACC cells after high court judge Justice John Oyiengo dismissed an application by Sonko’s lawyers seeking to be granted anticipatory bail pending investigations. while issuing his ruling, Justice Oyiengo said that the governor’s arrest was legal and there was no breach of his rights.
Friday morning, the director of public prosecutions Noordin Haji issued an arrest order for Sonko alongside several others for irregular procurement and payments amounting to 357 million shillings.
Haji who independently reviewed the investigation file from the ethics and anti-corruption commission, said that he found sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution
