Supermarkets in Mombasa have complied with the government’s directive on the new prices on maize flour.
A spot check by Nation at different supermarkets revealed that the 2kg of maize flour of different brand including Dola and Taifa were being sold at Sh90 as directed by the government.
Mr Owen Busuma who was shopping at Budget supermarket urged the government to reduce other food prices such as sugar.
Meanwhile, millers in Mombasa have started implementing the new prices on maize flour even as it emerged they could have been forced to enter the deal without a clear payment plan.
A spot check at Mombasa Maize Millers Ltd and Kitui Flour Mills Ltd which are the two biggest cereals millers in the coast indicated that a bale of twelve 2kg packet sold at Sh1000, down from between Sh1800 and Sh2000.
Senior officials at the mills however, declined to be quoted saying only their umbrella organization, Cereals Millers Association (CMA) was the only one to address the media.
