Repossession of 20 acres of grabbed Mama Ngina Drive land begins with demolition of perimeter walls near Likoni terminus carried out by the Mombasa County government.
This comes a day after the National Lands Commission Chairman Muhammad Swazuri said that 75 per cent of the land had been grabbed. The NLC Chairman claimed that 13 people have grabbed 20 acres, leaving only six for the public.
Mombasa County Executive for Lands Edward Nyale told the Nation that the exercise was in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Monday directive while launching the Mama Ngina Drive Waterfront Regeneration Project that the grabbed pieces be repossessed.
He noted that the county was original complainant he was happy with the swift response. He added that they gave the Mama Ngina parcel a priority due to the Regeneration project.
Mr Nyale said they have already repossessed the first part of the 26 acres which is 1.5 acres before proceeding to the other side of the Golf course. He said that nobody has so far claimed or gone to court over the ongoing repossession.
