A primary school in Taita Taveta County in conjunction with Sauti ya Wanawake has started an ambitious agricultural project with pupils. The programme involves teaching pupils on how to adopt new agricultural technology that fits the area which is semi arid.
Already 25 pupils from Kishushe primary school are part of the programme that was funded by Action Aid at a tune of 80,000 shillings. The chairperson of the Sauti ya Wanawake, Mary Seleka has enlightened many residents on Sun Culture agriculture, which can work well in the area. The use of Sun Culture technique involves digging trenches, laying a dam liner before covering the trench with soil and manure mixture. The dam liner prevents water from being absorbed into the ground and hence it will be available for the plants.
