The Kenya Roads Board has now been empowered to borrow funds for maintenance and development of roads. The board will also oversee both the road maintenance levy and the development funds. The Kenya Roads Board (amendment) Bill 2019 that was Friday morning signed into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta gives the board powers to float bonds and approach lending institutions. The board will have to seek clearance from the National Treasury, Parliament and the ministry of transport before signing any loan.
