The private sector has lost an estimated Sh21.3 billion in the last six days when the Supreme Court annulled the declaration of Mr Uhuru Kenyatta as President following the hotly contested August 8 General Election.
Speaking in Nairobi, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Chairman Kiprono Kitonny said the sector has lost about 0.3 per cent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in earning since the announcement last Friday.
He said the downturn has been driven by the current anxiety around the highly competitive August 8 General Election and the continuation that goes into the October 17 repeat poll.
Kenya’s GDP according to the Economic Survey Report 2017 is worth Sh7.1 trillion ($69billion).
