People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) now want to sign language incorporated as a subject in the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to make life easier for people with hearing challenges.
While hailing the government for the introduction of the curriculum, Laikipia County PLWDs chair Michael Njama noted that those with hearing deficiencies endured difficulties while trying to catch sufficient services at different levels for lack of sign language knowledge to those rendering them.
The chairman noted if the subject was introduced at the early stages of learning, every school-going child would acquire skills in sign language hence addressing miscommunication in the future.
