A number of residents in Ngong have opposed the relocation of the mega Ngong dumping site to a new location near their residential homes, saying it is a health hazard.
The 2.3 Billion shilling project is being funded by the Italian government and county government of Kajiado as a long term measure.
The issue of the Ngong dumping site within Ngong town has been a thorny one among residents for the last 15 years. The mountain of waste continues to pile each day extending beyond the five acres set aside for dumping. The smell of raw sewer flowing freely from the dumping site has been affecting the nearby Mathare slum residents, the Catholic Church centre and township primary and secondary schools.
