More than 200 workers of East Africa Portland Cement, Kibini plant, in Kajiado County, are up in arms over alleged unpaid dues, harassment and discrimination by the cement manufacturer management. The agitated workers whose contracts were terminated three months ago, claim that they are yet to receive their dues. They staged peaceful demonstrations at the plant, paralyzing activities. They claim their dismissal was inappropriate and unfair, as they had not been given any notice of termination of their contracts. Area MP Peris Tobiko also weighed in on the dispute, accusing the company of failing to honor a meeting with the community and using security agencies to harass workers.
