Nyeri Deputy Governor Mutahi Kaiga will be sworn into office as Governor without a by-election following the untimely death of the County Governor Wahome Gakuru. The constitution explicitly provides for the elevation of a Deputy Governor to Governor in the event of the death of the substantive Governor. However the law remains silent on the fate of the Deputy Governor in the event the Deputy Governor ascends to the gubernatorial position.
