Plans to revert some health functions to the National government appear to be gaining momentum. The senate Health Committee has given a nod to taking back specific health functions to the state. Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union-KMPDU together with the civil group Boresha Maisha are seeking to address this in a petition and a bill to the senate and national assembly. The push to return the function aims to address the misappropriation of funds meant for referral hospitals by some county governments that have level 5 hospitals that are entitled to the Ksh. 4.2 billion kitty meant for development. They say there have been cases of misappropriation of these funds through counties revenue accounts.
