Kenneth Matiba praised by fellow multiparty champions

His comrades who took part in the clamor for multiparty democracy with him, have always insisted that it was Kenneth Matiba’s detention and the refusal by the government to grant him access to medical treatment, that led to his perennial health complications.

Njeru Kathangu, the secretary general of Ford Asili and Paul Muite- Matiba’s former lawyer, both concur that his bad health began while he was in detention. And as Andrew Ochieng reports, the life and times of the man who some have hailed as the father of democracy in the country, was full of not just political activism, but generosity and warmth.
