At least 10 containers containing goods valued at over 15 million shillings have been destroyed today in Mombasa, because the goods were substandard. Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed led the multi agency team that included Kenya Bureau of Standards and the Kenya Revenue Authority. The five containers of rice, one container of used tyres and four containers of spaghetti were incinerated at Bamburi Cement Plant. Kebs says the rice had already expired at the time of import, and the spaghetti was of low quality. The regulator says these 10 containers are part of 163 containers with goods valued at Ksh. 250 million which have been earmarked for destruction in the coming weeks.
