On my kicker tonight, i go 3d to talk about dynasties, democracy and decency. Earlier today, the three ds –dynasties, democracy and decency featured prominently in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech during the 41st commemoration of the death of the country’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta. When he talked of ‘dynasties’, president Kenyatta was without doubt aiming a direct hit at his deputy William Ruto, whose more than early 2022 presidential campaign has already been styled as a race against the ‘dynasties’. Dynasties is the code word for the country’s big political families that include the Kenyatta’s, the Odinga’s and the Mois. The deputy president’s campaigners have loudly proclaimed that the 2022 election will be a race between so called ‘hustlers’ led by deputy president Ruto and ‘dynasties’ an obvious reference to the emerging Kenyatta-Odinga-Moi axis. Now, I do not know whether such a race is in the offing and I cannot try to project here an election that is about three years away.
