Former nominated senator, Joy Gwendo, has been jailed for two and a half years. Gwendo pleaded guilty to abuse of office charges after a plea bargain with the DPP, but failed to honour her side of the deal.
She had agreed to pay the Kisumu East Cotton Growers Co-operative Society Sacco, 1.7 million shillings, money she allegedly conferred herself using her position. She was accused of issuing a cheque of 300,000 shillings in favour of Kisumu East Cotton Growers Cooperative Society, through CFC Stanbic, yet she knew there were insufficient funds.
