The introduction of the third sex marker in the 2019 National Housing and Population Census has given hope to the intersex community in the country that finally their push for equal rights may be on the homestretch. This milestone is a culmination of concerted efforts by various stakeholders to have the government officially recognize this special group of Kenyans who had hitherto, suffered. For many intersex persons in the country, the journey to August 24th has been that of financial burden, stigma and a struggle to fit in.
