Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum and Mining John Munyes announced plans for the construction of a gold refinery in Kakamega County. Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said a five-acre piece of land would be allocated for the project after the Acacia Mining Company, which is prospecting for gold and other minerals in Ikolomani constituency announced discovering 1.31 ounces of inferred gold resources on the Lirhanda Corridor.
