The World Bank has extended a 500 million shilling emergency grant to cushion Narok county residents from the ravages of floods and drought. The money will go towards offering supportive treatment to livestock as well as conduct disease surveillance. The funds will also help conduct borehole repairs and desalination of dams.
These developments were announced during a sheep and goat distribution exercise in the county under a project dubbed resilience communities. The projects helps farmers restock an equivalent number of animals that they may have lost through natural calamities. Over 150 households are benefiting the initiative.
Similar programmes will be rolled out in 14 different counties that were hit by the drought and floods.
